Welcome to the Weekend!

Welcome to Saturday, Saffas! We’ve made it through winter – now it’s all ploughman’s platters, pubs, festivals, picnics, pints, and heaps of fun. Best time of year’s here ‘til October rolls around!

South Africa Makes its Linguistic Mark

Ever said “gatvol” to a Brit and got a blank stare?

Or dropped a “sharp-sharp” and watched them blink?

Our SA words are hitting the big time – the Oxford English Dictionary just added a whole lot of our slang, from “yoh” to “zol”! Dof is a word now.

Fancy a laugh and a quick tip to sound like a local legend? Check out the full article – it’s a fun read you’ll want to share with every mate who’s ever been moggy in the rain!

Here’s some more:

  • Robots = traffic lights

  • Bakkie = pick up

  • Takkies = trainers

  • Prestik = blue tac

  • Koki pen = felt tip marker pen

  • Pen = biro

  • Pants = trousers

  • Underwear = pants

  • Naartjie = satsuma

  • Friend = mate

  • Oh shame = oh bless

  • Braai = barbeque

  • Supper = tea

Visa Fees Increase, Saffas!

Heads up – from April 9th, 2025, UKVI and Home Office fees are sneaking up!

Visitor visas jump to £127 (R2,950), spouse visas hit £1,846 (R42,864), and the Health Surcharge adds £3,105 (R72,098).

Inside the UK? ILR’s now £3,029 (was £2,885), Naturalisation’s £1,735 (up from £1,630), and Leave to Remain’s £1,321 (from £1,258).

Non-Acquisition’s £459 too. Cash feeling tight? Be aware of these changes – we’ll thrive anyway!

“Kill the Boer” Song Cleared by Top SA Court

On March 27, 2025, South Africa’s Constitutional Court rejected AfriForum’s bid to appeal a 2022 ruling, keeping “Kill the Boer” legal.

The anti-apartheid song, sung by EFF leaders at a March 21 rally, sparked Elon Musk’s claim on X of it “promoting white genocide.”

Courts overturned a 2012 hate speech ban, finding no violence incited.

The EFF says it honours the apartheid fight, not a literal call to harm.

Saffas Tackle the Premiership; Our Boys Bring the Gees!

Saffas in the UK, get ready – the Gallagher Premiership’s heating up, and our lads are smashing it!

Over 50 South Africans, like Faf de Klerk at Sale and Jasper Wiese at Leicester, are tearing up England’s top rugby league.

Bath’s topping the table after a 42-26 Gloucester win, with seven rounds to go.

We love the grit, the hits, and the Springbok flair lighting up the pitch. It’s not Cape Town’s sun, but the Prem’s got that raw gees we crave.

Catch a game, cheer our boys, and share your fave moment with us, you legends!

Our Story:From South Africa to the UK

Hello friends, we once had a beautiful life in South Africa – warm days, open spaces, and the comfort of family and friends.

Leaving it all for the UK was one of the hardest choices we’ve made.

Life here is so different; the shift can feel overwhelming, and the challenges are real. Work often means starting over – our qualifications don’t always carry weight, so we’ve taken jobs far below what we once knew, accepting lower pay and status.

It’s humbling, but it’s a step we’ve learned to embrace. We were fortunate to stay with family when we arrived, though we still rebuilt everything – new schools for our children, new paths for us.

We’ve seen others struggle deeply, and it’s tugged at our hearts. Yet, we’ve also guided close friends to find their footing here, and their gratitude has shown us something vital: there’s a need to help.

South Africa’s troubles weigh heavy, but the UK offers safety – a gift we cherish.

We’re here to ease that journey for South Africans starting anew, sharing honest advice and support from our hearts.

Together, we can build a thriving community – because we know your strength, and we feel it too.

We’re working on a “Starting over in the UK” action plan to help South Africans get off to a fast start. It’ll be a FREE SPECIAL REPORT. Share it far and wide. It might help.
